There was an incident about 15-20 years ago off one of the San Diego long range tuna boats (where they fight fish stinnadg up, not assisted by a fighting chair). The guy (I believe an off-duty deckhand, so he knew his stuff) slipped on the deck and was pulled over while fighting a 200+ pound tuna. The harness swiveled around his waist so he was being pulled backwards underwater and couldn’t reach the release clips. (Yes, harnesses have release clips.) But fortunately he had a pair of dikes (line clippers) in his pocket and he managed to cut the line. I remember this because it was such a rare incident.But in general, this isn’t a problem even with 100 pound test line, the drag shouldn’t be set at more than 40 pounds. You’d have to slip on the deck, or have the boat go over a sudden sharp swell (or both) to have a pull of that amount drag you over.Honestly, I think a lot more fishermen are killed by their boat sinking than by freak accidents like this (or a billfish spearing them). But the freak accidents get all the press.

I screen out the really bad stuff – guess I missed a few. For the most part, people who write poorly are victims of our public school system that did not teach them how to communicate effectively and allowed the current generation to slide by with Twitter and texting shorthand. (i’m LMFAO)
