Face-to-Face Training vs. Teleseminar Training

The Value of Face-to-Face Training vs. Teleseminar Training

Public seminar companies are pushing teleseminar training.  As a business management trainer, I have a huge problem with the effectiveness of such training.  Sure, it’s cheaper than putting fannies in chairs, but it’s much less effective.  Here’s why.

When the trainer has no eye contact with the trainees:

  • The trainer has no way to judge whether or not the trainees are getting the lesson.
  • The trainer cannot adjust his delivery to match the learning style of the trainees.
  • The trainees are in an unstructured setting and can become distracted by phones, e-mail, and a myriad of other focus busters.
  • The unstructured setting with the resulting obvious lack of accountability discourages trainees from taking the training seriously and makes them much more likely to be distracted.

Think about it.  What distractions do you allow to creep in when you’re on a teleseminar?  Our intentions are good, but the lack of importance attached to the teleseminar is obvious.
